Yana Lucila Lema Otavalo (1974) is a Kichwa and Spanish bilingual (Otavalo, Ecuador) poet, storyteller, videographer, translator, cultural promoter, and community journalist and commentator (comunicadora social). In her poetry cosmos, an attempt to make a harmony between Andes’ traditional mythological and poetic language and the modern, urban, and day-life language of Kitswanese, living in a city is illustrated. She has been recognized with a number of national and international awards for her work, including Tamyawan Shamukupani(Living with the rain, 2019), and Kampa Shimita Yarkachini (Tengo hambre de tu boca, 2021) which is awarded by Jorge Carrera Andrade Prize in 2021. She is currently focusing on her action for the continental solidarity of indigenous peoples, traveling through Mexico, Colombia, Peru, and Bolivia.
